Madrid, February 8, 2022. Telxius, the leading digital telecommunications infrastructure operator, announced today that Colt Technology Services will connect to Telxius’ Derio Communications Hub located near Bilbao, Spain. The Colt IQ Network connects more than 900 data centres and over 29,000 on net buildings across Europe, Asia and North America’s largest business hubs. Connecting through Telxius’ Derio Communications Hub will enable Colt customers to gain access to European key connectivity hubs like Madrid, Paris, Frankfurt, London or Amsterdam.
The Derio Communications Hub is a carrier neutral, purpose-built infrastructure strategically located in the North of Spain, just a few kilometers away from the landing point of the newest state of the art subsea cables in the transatlantic such as Marea and Grace Hopper. Within Telxius network, Marea and Dunant combined make one of the lowest latency and highest capacity transatlantic routes globally, which effectively connects to the main communication hub routes linking the rest of Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
Derio Communications Hub is connected to all main European data centers through Telxius extensive network in western Europe. Dunant is a next generation, high capacity transatlantic cable, connecting the United States with the French Atlantic coast. This agreement enhances Colt’s connectivity for customers seeking gateway access to a new and diverse route from the Americas to Europe.
“By connecting to the Derio Communications Hub, Colt customers gain access to state-of-the-art colocation environments across Europe, connecting to North America, Latin America and beyond,” comments Keri Gilder, Colt CEO. “This added layer of connectivity allows Colt to better serve its global customers as they look to meet their growing requirements in some of the world’s leading digital markets.”
“We are glad that Colt has decided to strategically place a Point of Presence in our Derio Communications Hub, an optimal environment for connectivity,” says Mario Martín, Telxius CEO. “Every carrier, hyperscaler, cloud and content provider can benefit from Derio’s cutting-edge and high interconnection and colocation capabilities”.
With 2,000 sqm and up to 4 MW of power, Derio Communications Hub is carrier neutral and features TIER III specifications, representing the newest innovative design in subsea cable infrastructure. It offers a unique combination of an expanded cable landing station (CLS) with advanced cable transmission capabilities, and a fully-fledged international PoP. In addition, it was designed using environmentally friendly standards and runs on 100 percent renewable energy with free cooling.
