Madrid, October 18, 2021. Telxius, the  leading   digital   telecommunications   infrastructure  operator with an extensive submarine cable network of near 94,000 km, announces that GÉANT, Europe’s leading collaboration on e-infrastructure and services for research and education, will take advantage of Telxius’ connectivity services in Europe to improve communications in the Iberian Peninsula for the benefit of the scientific community. Interconnecting Europe’s National Research and Education Networks (NRENs), the pan-European GÉANT network remains the most advanced, well-connected research and education network in the world.

Together with our NREN partners, GÉANT brings Europe’s brightest minds together to collaborate virtually and accelerate research, drive innovation and enrich education,” says Bram Peeters, Chief Network Operations Officer, GÉANT. “Leveraging Telxius as one of our valued infrastructure partners in Europe helps us deliver the high-bandwidth, high-speed and highly resilient pan-European backbone that 50 million researchers, academics and students rely on.”

Telxius boasts an international high-capacity submarine cable network of near 94,000 km, which links Europe to the U.S., Latin America and beyond. Telxius bridges the Atlantic with Marea and Dunant, two next generation submarine cables making a unique and diverse route, one of the lowest latency and highest capacity globally. Both land at Virginia Beach (US), as well as Brusa, the first submarine cable establishing a direct connection between Brazil and the United States. At Bilbao (Spain), the company’s Derio Communications Hub leverages the full Marea capacity and connects it to key communications hubs in Europe like Madrid, Paris, London or Marseille. Telxius also offers the most modern and diverse end-to-end connectivity the US, Brazil and Argentina with Junior, Tannat and Brusa.

Telxius is pleased to work with GÉANT to support their connectivity requirements across Europe, contributing to the advancement of scientific research and innovation and empowering the work of millions of students, scientists and researchers globally,” comments Carlos Casado, Head of EMEA Sales, Telxius.

The GÉANT network continues to set the standard for speed, service availability, security and reach, and is essential to Europe’s e-infrastructure strategy, supporting open science and advanced networking services while offering the highest levels of capacity and security for its users.
